Family story that did that I started to genealogy about family Almgren from Närke.
Fredrik my grandfather was accordinly family tall tale grandchild to a Wise Man that had come wandering from White-Russia or Ukraina. In each case far from east. He took the way through Finland and eventually ended up in the district Narvik in Norway. There he married a norweigan Laplander-girl.
They supposed to have travelled down to Lindesbergs district and settle down on a islet or a island in the river that runs between Lindesberg and Vedevåg. The island was called in popular speech for Almgrens Island.
He become famous in the district for his knowledge about medicinal herbs, that this couple grew on this island. So grandfathers father was a "Wise Man" as they was called those who knew about medicine. If it was Lapland-woman or our ancestor that were the one who knew medicine nobody knows today, but they "worked" together.
My grandfather Karl Erik Almgren was a farm hand when he and Anna (born 1884) met. After that he worked in Strossa Mine, first management. They lived in the workers barracks, the 2 oldest children was given away as small children, the brother Manne lived at Annas Mother in Slåttermossen, and our Mother Eivor lived at grandmother, that probably became a widow early, and Oncle (Fredriks Brother) Klas in Järnaboås, until the school started and then they came home. Probably to Stråssa!
Fredrik worked as a navvy some time and was building a railway in Norrland, on of his work was on the Treriksröset (Three-State-Cairn, the place in Sweden where 3 countries (boarders met) accordinly to the familystory.
Fredrik also worked as farmer hand and odd-jobbman in periods, depending on what work he could find. After Stråssa Anna and Fredrik lived for a while with their 11 children in Slåttermossen.
One time they lived on Sörängarna, a house belonging to Ragvaldsbergs Farm in Gusselby.
The last habitation was Skolgatan (School street) in Lindesberg, where Anna and Fredrik lived in an apartment with a big kitchen and one room.
Their neighbour lived in one-room apartment and was their son Hans and his wife Friedborg with their son Kjell.
It become before school started no contact between Eivor and Grandmother. It was not spoken of Grandmother and Brother Klas in Järnaboås, where at least Klas lived in the workers barracks.

How fun you have found my Vikers Web. It is a fun hobby I have, but unfortually to little time for it.
Of course Almgrens Island exists still today, even if it isn´t an island anymore. The fact is that people have built a road over it. I enclose 2 maps where you can see the island, partly jurisdicyional district and one modern. So the island lies in Hovmanstorpsjön located nearby south of Dalkarlsberg.
The ruin after the small cottage is also there.
Almgren worked as a Gardener. You can wonder why he choose to settle down on that small island in the middle of the forest, and surely many thought the same when he arrieved from Viker. And people got even more suspicios when the Gardener made this island into a garden. You can understand that people wondered about his bakground. And he is written about in a novel by reporter John Bratt.
John was the son of Gustaf Bratt in Dalkarlsberg and had of course met Almgren as a child and with these childhoodmemories as a ground he wrote in 1911 a ghost story with Almgren a maincharacter.
The book is not so easy to find, but I have a copy and I have actually thought about give it out again with some modern spelling and comments. We will see when I have got the time for that.
Anyway I have read OCR-texture so everything is ready for setting.
